PROVO, UT — In a bold recruiting move praised by both sports analysts and the Church Missionary Department, BYU Football rounded out a feverish recruiting weekend by announcing their latest commitment: 22-year-old Elder Bradyn K. Swenson, a returned missionary from the Boise, Idaho Mission, best known for “getting past the toughest doors in the Northwest.”
Dubbed by coaches as “the J-Dub Slayer,” Swenson set a mission record in 2023 for “Total Doors Penetrated” (TDP) — racking up an astonishing 1,173 successful entries, 218 return appointments, 97 conditional promises to read Moroni 10, and 34 full-immersion baptisms in a single season.
“Bradyn has what we call ‘door burst’ — that raw, unteachable ability to identify weaknesses in a front porch and exploit them,” said BYU Defensive Coordinator Bro. Lavell “Crunch” Rawlings. “He doesn’t just knock — he spiritually bull-rushes.”
Swenson’s highlight tape — posted on the BYU athletics page — shows him in various door scenarios: shoulder-leaning into a cracked-open screen door, spinning past a pit bull while reciting the First Vision, and giving a swim move around a Baptist grandmother to sneak in a Book of Mormon.
“He once got into a gated community with a No Soliciting sign and a Ring camera. That’s like a triple blitz pickup,” said mission companion Elder Taysom. “I just bore my testimony while he made the inside move.”
Analysts are already predicting Swenson will start at rush end, especially since BYU’s previous starter, Elder Porter “Veil Buster” Daxwell, tore his ACL demonstrating the Plan of Salvation with folding chairs during a fireside.
Swenson, who chose BYU over Liberty, Oral Roberts, and a half-off scholarship at Southern Utah’s Church Ball Academy, said he’s grateful to keep serving the Lord — now with a three-point stance instead of a kneel.
“At the end of the day, getting a sack is just like getting into a stubborn Evangelical’s home,” said Swenson at a press conference held inside a freshly knocked-on home in Provo. “You feel resistance, you keep pushing, and when you break through — it’s glory.”
Swenson will redshirt this year to recover from a lingering tracting injury and plans to major in Entrepreneurship with a minor in Explaining the Difference Between Mormons and Christians.
